3rd Grade Online Science Unit

I created a hybrid mini unit on force and friction for my 3rd grade students to participate in. I used Haiku to create this class because it was easy to navigate for both the creator and the user. During this mini unit, students learned about force and friction both on the computer and with hands-on experiments in the computer lab. This allowed them to see how their learning in science relates to the real world.

CEP Coursework Blog

Using Wordpress, I was able to create a blog where I could showcase all of the CEP course work that I completed while working on my Education Technology Master's Degree at Michigan State University. Anyone who visits my blog will be able to see how I have interacted, created, integrated, explored, and used technology both inside and outside of my classroom, throughout each CEP course.

Networked Learning

I spent an entire semester using a new form of learning called, "networked learning." I was asked to choose a task I have always wanted to complete but have never had the time. Then learn how to do that task using only YouTube and help forums. I chose to learn how to reupholster a wing back chair I bought at a garage sale. It was definitely a learning experience for myself because I like to talk to people about projects and that was not possible! This style of learning is becoming very popular with students because of the availability of the internet. As teachers, we have to learn these new styles and incorporate them into our classrooms to help motivate students.

Technology has always interested me and I want to share that enthusiasum with every student, parent, and teacher who walks through my classroom door. To ensure I achieve that goal, I pursued a Master's Degree in Educational Technology!

The gallery of work below showcases different technology tools and programs that I have used while completing my Educational Technology Master's Degree, at Michigan State Universtiy. Each example shows how I am eager to use multiple forms of technology in my classroom, stay up to date with current technology, integrate technology into as many subject areas as possible, learn new things using technology, and my willingness to share my passion for technology with everyone around me. Please click on the picture of the project to explore what I created during my time in the MAET program.

Survey
Monkey

Technology Survey

The technology survery was made using a website called Survey Monkey. I created this survey to gain a better understanding of my colleague's beliefs of educational technology found, in our school district. After my colleagues participated in the survey, I analyzed the results and created a document of my findings. I also created a visual representation of my findings using Infographics. I shared these findings with the leaders in my school district and they could not believe what I had uncovered. They found the findings very eye opening and have since used some of the feedback while planning professional development and future technology opportunities.

Google
Docs

Developer Notebook

This google document was created to help me reflect on all of my CEP 820 assignments and to receive feedback from my professors. This google doc allowed me to share both my positive and negative experiences, challenges, and successes while creating my 3rd grade hybrid science unit using Haiku.

iMovie &
Youtube

Social Constructivisim
Science Digital Story

To show how I incorporated Vygotsky's Social Constructisim Theory into my classroom, I created a digital story using iMovie. This entire process allowed me to analyze both my teaching and student learning. This reflection showed me the importance of student interaction and real life application. When students can discuss and apply what they have learned in the classroom to the real world they are beginning to show mastery of that objective.

Prezi

Blendspace

Hattie's 6 Factors to Educational Success

Prezi allowed me to create a visual representation of Hattie's 6 factors to educational success from John Hattie's article "The Argument." This website made it possible for me to emphasize what factors influence student achievement and how they effect student achievement. It also showed how all of these factors are brought together when technology is added as the seventh factor. This website gave me the chance to create a unique representation that immediately catches a learners attention!

Reimagining Online Learning

There are many "wicked problems" in the field of educational technology and a group of us were given the challenge of solving one, reimagining online learning. To do this, my classmates and I collaborated through google documents and Google Hangouts, throughout the semester. In the end, we created a collaboration paper, a visual representation, and a video remix that explained the solution to our wicked problem on a website called blendspace. This experience allowed of us to see how education is moving to an online experience and how teachers need to become educated in the field of educational technology to successfully teach students online.

Technology in Classroom

Read Works Screencast

For this assignment, I used Screencast-O-Matic to create a screencast that shows a solution to an ill-structured problem, in the classroom. I chose to focus on reading because my school district does not have a reading curriculum to follow. While researching free resources I came across ReadWords.org. It is an amazing resource for K-6 teachers to use and this screencast explains how teachers can use the website to help enhance reading lessons. I use these lessons and activities weekly with my students and I have found that student engagement has increased since I started using them!

Science Podcast

I was asked to interview a student in my classroom so I could evaluate their understanding. I chose to interview one of my third grade boys about shadows using the program audacity to capture our discussion. He was very excited when I asked him to participate, in the interview. He took it very seriously. I learned a lot from this interview and gained a better understanding of where I should begin the sound and light unit. Once I edited the interview I uploaded to soundcloud so that everyone could listen to my experience.
